CSCG Statement on Multiannual Financial Framework

In view of the ongoing negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework the Civil Society Contact Group issued a statement to address their views on the European Commission proposal on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020.  The group highlighted that EU spending should be underpinned by a set of core principles:

  • EU spending must reflect the values and objectives of the EU;
  • the inviolable and inalienable rights of the human person, freedom, democracy, non-discrimination, equality and gender equality;
  • the principle of sustainable development and
  • the rule of law.

The CSCG advocates for participation of civil society in the negotiations of the various financial programmes, and for funding for civil society to be envisaged in the different programmes.

The CSCG urged decision makers to promote sustainable development and social inclusion going beyond growth in the negotiations.
